Safe Communities, Safe Children

What is
Safe Communities, Safe Children?

Safe Communities, Safe Children (SCSC) is our latest protective behaviours program that is based on our award-winning (2020 Zest Award for Exceptional Project in a Not For Profit Organisation) work. With SCSC, we have incorporated the latest research on personal safety education and added a new focus on online delivery to make it as easy as possible to empower adults to implement key safety concepts with children in their lives.

Early childhood professionals are taught how to recognise the early warning signs of abuse, given expert advice on mandatory reporting requirements and are taught how to better protect the children in their care. Parents and carers are also equipped with the information and skills they need to implement a safety framework with their children and learn about developmental risks, including problematic sexualised behaviours.

Our team can also deliver child protection training workshops (online or face to face) that are tailor-made to suit your community’s needs.

Who can benefit from the
SCSF Program?

The prevalence of reported child abuse in Australia is alarming. We know that child abuse happens behind closed doors and that many cases are never reported. That’s why the aim of our program is to teach the important personal safety skills needed to keep our most vulnerable safe.

One of the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse was the need for: “prevention education delivered through preschool, school and other community institutional settings that aims to increase children’s knowledge of child sexual abuse and build practical skills to assist in strengthening self protective skills and strategies.”

Our program can be tailored to suit the unique needs of diverse cohorts. Versions of the program have been successfully delivered to children with disabilities, children affected by domestic and family violence and children from CALD, refugee and recent migrant communities.
